Wesley Earl Mullins, 75, of Wilson, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, at home surrounded by family.
Born in Wilson County to the late John Leonard and Cora Elizabeth Jones Mullins, he was surrounded by a host of brothers and sisters.
He graduated from Saratoga High School and was an honor student and Wilson County Conference all-star while playing football, baseball, and basketball. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served as an Aviation Electrician with Fighter Squadron 143 aboard the USS Constellation, where he earned several medals and commendations. After the Navy, he farmed and worked for the Wilson Tobacco market. Later on, he enrolled at Wilson Community College to continue his education in HVAC and refrigeration, which led him to work at Bruce Stancil Refrigeration before starting his own business that continued for over 35 years until his passing.
In addition to his parents, Wesley was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Ann Mullins and brothers Donniehue Mullins, Sr., and Paul Leonard Mullins.
He is survived by his children Carolee Mullins Coley (Jeff) of Elm City and Jon Wesley Mullins (Adrienne) of Cary, his grandson Anthony Chasse of Evansville, ID; sisters, Pattie Stephenson of Willow Spring, Linda Page (Linwood) of Goldsboro, Frances Balance (Johnny) of Fremont, and Lynn Swearingen (Robert) of Goldsboro; brothers, Bobby Mullins (Barbara) of Mansfield, TX, John Ed Mullins of Elm City, Gerald Mullins of Wendell, and Harold Mullins (Rebecca) of Berkley Springs, WV. He also leaves behind close friends Paul Barnes of Wilson, Shelia Farmer of Elm City, Tony Greene of Elm City, Glenn Barefoot of Benson and Jenni Newcomb of Jacksonville.
There will be no funeral or formal memorial service at Wesley's request. Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life held in the near future. The family will notify friends and family once plans are finalized.
