We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Wilson Memorial Service
Wilson - Ruth Ann Bass Eason, 79, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with family by her side.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 11th, 2:00pm at Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson, Section E.
She was born in Wilson County, the second child of the late Clayton and Mary Lee Bass. In addition to her parents, Ruth Ann was also predeceased by her brother, Jimmie Bass.
As a young woman, the family moved from the small town of Lucama to Wilson where Ruth Ann raised her family.
Ruth Ann is survived by her sons, William Michael Evans (Kim) of Durham and Jeffery Clayton Evans of Atlantic Beach; daughter, Wendy Evans Smith of Richmond, VA; former son-in-law, Grayson Smith of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Savannah Evans of Raleigh, William Michael Evans, Jr. (Jordan) of Gibsonville and Katelyn Marie Smith of Richmond, VA; sister, Sadie Bridgers (Rudolph) of Elm City; brother, Junior Bass (Edna) of Fountain and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth Ann was a seamstress at a blouse factory and then a shirt factory before landing a job with Foster Forbes Glass Company where she retired from after 22 years. Ruth Ann loved her flowers and prided herself on the many colorful blooms that adorned her yard from early spring until late summer. Ruth Ann was known for her carrot cakes. The children could count on a carrot cake for their birthday. Christmas wasn’t complete without her carrot cake, a tradition her grandchildren loved as much as her children.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Scott Smith, Duke Oncology, and his staff for the compassionate care they provided. While her stay at Kitty Askins was very short, the family is very appreciative of the excellent care and compassion they provided.
In lieu of flowers, please love and care for your family and friends. Show kindness to those with fur and feathers. Bring humor into a part of every day. Stand strong for what is right. Pay an act of kindness forward for our first responders or military. The family wishes for fond memories of Ruth Ann to fill the hearts of all who knew her. Condolences can be sent to her son, W.M. Evans, 4407 Dula St, Durham, NC 27705.
