Joan Thompson

Joan Whitley Thompson, 81, of Wilson, died Sunday, December 26, 2021, surrounded by her family and close friends.

Funeral, Wednesday, 11:00 AM, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Elm City.

Joan graduated from Charles L. Coon High School and Atlantic Christian College. She taught school in Edgecombe County for more than 38 years.  After retiring, she was a substitute teacher at Hunt and Fike High Schools.

She is survived by her son, Jay Whitley (Lisa) of Elm City; sister, Judy Parker (Walter Morris) of Elm City; special friends and caregivers, Mary Ruffin, Wilma Askew, Karen Howard, Carol Ashley; fur baby, Joey. A special thanks to Dr. Foy and the staff at Brentwood Veterinary Center.

Joan was preceded in death by her twin sister, Janice Saunders; brother-in-law, Melvin; and the father of her son, Joe Whitley.
