Mrs. Poythress married C.V. Poythress on Christmas Eve 1949. They enjoyed 71 years together. They were inseparable and enjoyed many trips with the Wilson County Shriners and Shrinettes. Whether it was steak Bingo night at the Shrine Club or a family gathering, Ernestine was going to have a good time. She is survived by her husband, C.V. Poythress; daughters, Deborah Ayers (Bobby) of Wilson and Vicky Shover (Dr. Paul) of Elm City; son, David Poythress of Wilson; grandchildren, Amanda Dougherty of Clayton, Dr. Bennett Jones (Jennifer) of Clayton, Brad Wheeler (Ashley) of Greenville, Anya Capps (Robert Ward) of Wilson, Pruitt Poythress of Denver, CO and Chandler Shover of Elm City; great-grandchildren, Wooten, Anna Gracen, and Christian Dougherty; Sydney and Carson Jones; Natalie, Ethan, and Hudson Capps; Jayce Sarafino and Lilly Spence Wheeler; sister, Mozelle Taylor and brother, Harold Cooper of Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mattie and Eddie Cooper; brothers JB, Horace, and Junior Cooper; and daughter-in-law Gloria Poythress, who was a loving caregiver for Ernestine and C.V. until her health declined and she went home to be with Jesus.
