Arlene Brattain

Arlene Champion Brattain, 69, of Lucama, died Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

A visitation will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Tuesday, August 24, 6:00 - 7:30 PM.

She is survived by her sons, Shawn Horner (Jeivell) of California, Michael Horner (Nancy) of Kenly and Donald Horner of Lucama; daughter, Stephine Cox (John) of South Carolina; 13 beautiful grandchildren and 2 beautiful great-grandchildren.

Arlene was born in a much simpler time when you love the family, respect your elders, and plan for the future.  Hard work only resulted progress in the right direction for all whom put forth the effort.  Arlene did just that with everything she did, and life at times pushed back.  She never gave up, discouraged at times but never throwing in the towel.  She lived by faith and it carried her through some difficult times in her life just to have that season pass with prayers.  Arlene loved her husband Larry of 34 years and her growing family.  She didn’t demand respect for others it was earned by giving respect.  She always said to her children, “Never ask someone to do something that you are not willing to do yourself.”  Arlene didn’t ask for a handout when she did not need it, she earned her way through life and sacrificed for her children even when it meant she went without.   Arlene put her heart into all her daily tasks from the job, gardening, family, and friends.

Watching her boys grow into fine young men and then into husbands with brides followed by becoming parents excited her.   Later, the family became the driving force that adding the extra spring in her step.  Grandchildren and great grandchildren brought such joy to her life she glowed when around them.  Her smile when holding her grandchildren or great grandchildren could light up a room from her love.

Arlene loved her church and her church family by helping in many ways.  She cherished and loved the friendships with several friends from WEHS throughout her life. Arlene made an impact on other’s and they made an impact on her.  Arlene was caregiver to all who needed it. Thank you for the love.
