NASHVILLE - Lou Yvonne Barbee "Von" Hinton, of the Momeyer community, passed away the morning of March 13, 2013 at Wilson Medical Center.
She was born March 19, 1928 in Sanford, North Carolina to the late Clem Shaw Barbee and Ethel Land Barbee. Her family moved to the Spring Hope area where she was raised on a tobacco farm with her nine siblings. Yvonne graduated from Spring Hope High School in 1945 and returned for her 12th year of education following WWII. Soon after, she took a job as a stenographer with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (later the Seaboard Coast Line RR), where she worked for 17 1/2 years. She married Zachary Hassell Hinton, her high school classmate, in 1950 in Wake Forest, North Carolina and settled in her husband's community of Momeyer. Upon the birth of her daughters, she remained at home enjoying motherhood and their school and extracurricular activities. She eventually returned to work as a rural route mail carrier in Nash County and faithfully served her patrons there for 17 1/2 years. She retired in 1990. In her retirement, she enjoyed time at Lake Gaston and travelled in the U.S. and abroad. Yvonne faithfully served her community and church. She assisted with barbeque chicken meals at the Momeyer Ruritan Club and chaired the annual blood mobile and heart association drive. At Momeyer Baptist Church, she served as director of Vacation Bible School, chairman of the Food Committee and leader of the senior citizens group. She will be remembered for finding humor in nearly every situation of life.
She is survived by her daughters, Marla H. Parker and husband, Wayland of Wilson, Kimberly H. Loftin and husband, Patrick of Knightdale, her granddaughter, Olivia Parker, and grandson, Zachary Loftin, her brothers, William C. Barbee of Rocky Mount, Karl Barbee of Garner and her sister, Edith B. Estes of Mount Airy and faithful care givers, Maudell Mills and Annie Yarborough. She was predeceased by her husband, Zachary Hassell Hinton, her parents, Clem and Ethel Barbee, her brothers, Marvin, Harold, Robie, and Frederick Barbee and her sisters, Ruth B. McLean and Geraldine Barbee.
The family will receive friends at Yvonne's home at 3718 US 64 Alternate in Momeyer on Friday, March 15. A visitation is planned at Momeyer Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Friday evening.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Momeyer Baptist Church, 4967 Momeyer Way with the Rev. Morris Hollifield conducting. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Nashville.
