JACKSONVILLE, FL - William Haywood Exum Jr., 88, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 in Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral, Friday, 4:45 PM, at the Stantonsburg Cemetery, Stantonsburg.
Mr. Exum was born in Goldsboro in 1926 and lived in Stantonsburg until 1944 when he entered the United States Navy. He earned his B.S. and MA degrees from East Carolina University and was employed by CSX Transportation from 1951 until he retired in 1991 as Assistant Director of Police and Special Services.
Mr. Exum was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Gould Exum and by his parents,Mary Lee Stanton Exum and William Haywood Exum Sr.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Martha Berry; step-sons, Walter Gould (Janet) and David Gould (Andrea); cousins, Anne Stanton, Tommy Stanton (Susan) and Raymond Murray (Ellen); grandchildren, Walter P. Gould (Vicki), Wendi Jones (Scott), Jennifer A. Gould and Stephanie K. Gould; great-grandchildren, Walter D. Gould, Mary S. Jones, Breckin L. Gould; nieces and nephews, Malivia Swanson (Wayne), Suzanne Malesic and son, Matthew, Lawrence Gary Jr. (Carol) and son, John Lawrence, Judson Gary (Olgy) and children David and Christine, Burchard B. Berry III (Michelle) and son, Burchard B. Berry IV.
