WILSON - Wiley Dew Forbes, 84, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008. A native of Wilson and son of the late Benjamin Vance and Nan Clark Forbes, he graduated from Charles L. Coon High School and proudly went on to serve in the Army Air Force from 1943-45. After the war, he joined the family truck freight business at Forbes Transfer Company. Scouting was always of interest and he proudly earned his Eagle rank under the leadership of Capt. John Barkley. That interest continued through his adult life. He and his wife, Kittye Farmer Forbes, moved to Greenville in 1953 with their children where he opened a branch office for the firm. There he was active in several civic and social organizations in addition to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the scouting program and little league athletics. In 1964, a move was made to Dunn where he continued with the company. There he joined Whit Bradham, football coach at Dunn High School, where they were instrumental in organizing the first Boosters Club. He returned to Wilson in 1969 and to the First Christian Church where he has been active with the Forbes family. Funeral, Thursday, 11 AM, First Christian Church, followed by a time of visiting and sharing. Surviving is a daughter, Donna Durkan
