Virginia Lee

WILSON - Wilson - Virginia Boyette Lee, 92, died peacefully at home Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Funeral, Saturday, 11:00 AM, First Christian Church. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery. She was born April 10, 1918 in Rock Ridge, Wilson County. She graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1936 and from East Carolina Teachers College in 1940. For over twelve years she was an elementary school teacher in Durham and Wilson County Schools. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who unconditionally loved each member of her family. In 1948 she made a confession of faith and joined the First Christian Church where she was subsequently baptized. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Cyrus Field Lee, her parents, John Thomas and Bessie Irene Farmer Boyette and her granddaughter, Hannah Boyette Lee. She is survived by four children: Beatrice Lee Newton and husband, Eldon Sharpe Newton, Jr., of Wilson; Dr. Cyrus Field Lee, Jr., and wife, Linda Viser Lee of Bailey; Rachel Lee Mercer and husband, Lawrence Douglas Mercer, of Beaufort; and James Thomas Lee and wife, Cristall Downs Lee, of Oriental; ten grandchildren: Senator-Elect Eldon Sharpe "Buck" Newton, III and wife, Hope Edmondson Newton; Jonathan Lee Newton and wife, Julia Stathopoulos Newton, all of Wilson; Dr. Cyrus Andrew Lee, of Durham, Rachel Katherine Lee of Washington D.C., Stephen Edward Lee, Joshua Mills Lee, Rebekah Viser Lee, and Samuel Langston Lee all of Bailey; Jessica Van Vrankin Lee and Alexander Field Lee of Wilmington; 4 great-grandchildren; Eldon Sharpe Newton, IV, Thomas Winfield Newton, Virginia Grey Newton and Emily Beatrice Newton, all of Wilson, sister, Dorothy Boyette Joyner of Wilson and brother, John William Boyette and wife Katherine Kenny Boyette of Wilson; six nieces and nephews, 11 grand nieces and nephews; and a great grand niece and nephew. The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Friday, November 5, from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.
