Tim Smith

KENLY - Timothy V. "Tim" Smith, 58, of the Buckhorn community, died Monday, November 10, 2014.

Funeral, Friday, 2 PM, Buckhorn United Methodist Church. Interment, Buckhorn Cemetery. The family will be at 6679 Governor Hunt Rd, Lucama.

He was preceded in death by his father, George V. Smith in February 2013.

Tim graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1974, attended Atlantic Christian College (now Barton) and with the help of his parents raised and harvested by hand one half acre of cucumbers each summer vacation to pay the tuition. Tim received the degree of Bachelor of Science Magna Cum Laude in 1978. While teaching at Vinson-Bynum he attended night classes at East Carolina University and earned the Master of Arts degree in Science Education in 1984. He went on to teach at Forest Hills Middle school the year it opened as a true middle school, in all teaching Wilson seventh graders Math and Science for 25 years. Tim was an active member of Buckhorn United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the Choir.

He is survived by his mother, Ezell Bailey Smith; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
