Thomas Jakubowski

Thomas Vincent Jakubowski, 72, of Wilson, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Wilson Medical Center.

He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with degree in Chemistry in 1968 and began his career with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio.  He was part of start-up team for Oklahoma City plant and in 1974 transferred to join the start-up team for the Wilson plant. Tom retired in 2006 after 38 years of service, 32 at Wilson plant.

Tom was active in the Wilson community for many years and probably best remembered for his wit, charm, and caring nature.  He loved gardening, cooking chili and baking bread, and preparing Polish dishes like stuffed cabbages and pierogis.

He is survived by daughters, Nancy Rutter (Bill) of Pottstown PA, Susan Bullough (Kevin) of Whispering Pines and Sarah Kolarik (Chris) of Apex; sons, Matthew Jakubowski of Charlotte and Jason Jakubowski of Leland; ex-wife, Kathy Collier Jakubowski of Wilson; 10 grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by daughter, Amy; parents, Helen and Vince Jakubowski; sister, Mary Bartus.
