Susan "Sue" Jones Tomlinson, 81, of Wilson, died February 25, 2021 at Rex Hospital, following an extended illness.
The family will be having a private service.
Susan graduated from Charles L. Coon High School, and from there attended ACC, graduating with a BA degree. She taught school for 40 years in Forsyth, Wake and Wilson counties. She received many awards throughout her teaching career, including North Carolina Teacher of the Year, presented to her by former Governor James B. Hunt.
She will be remembered for her warm and kind spirit and outstanding character. Susan was a loyal wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William F. “Billy” Tomlinson; parents, Clifford and Winnie Taylor Jones; sister, Shirley Wheeler.
Surviving is her son, Robert L. Rouse (Angelyn) of Wilson; granddaughters, Blair Daniels (Harland) of Princeton and Lauren Rouse of Pikeville; great-granddaughters, Olivia, Katelyn and Chloe Daniels.
Robert and Angelyn would like to express a very special thank you to Donna and Jim Johnson of Wilson for their love, support and many years of friendship to Sue and family.
