A memorial service in Celebration of Life will be Saturday, October 17, 2015, 11 AM, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 202 N. Goldsboro St., Wilson, with a reception in the Common Room to follow.

Sue was born November 30, 1946 in Charleston, WV, to the late Mary D. and Kenneth F. Miller.

Sue graduated from the University of Charleston (formerly Morris Harvey College) with degrees in nursing and psychology, and entered professional nursing in critical care. She and her husband moved to Wilson in 1977. Sue taught nursing at Barton College (then Atlantic Christian College) for almost twenty years, where her husband was the head coach for the college basketball team. Sue also served as Chairman of Nursing and Allied Health at Wilson Technical College. After retirement, Sue became an active church and community volunteer and served as the Director of the Community Soup Kitchen.

Sue is survived by Bill, her husband of forty-seven years, her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Quinn Wesson, and their two daughters Emily and Abby, a sister-in-law Marge M. Miller, nephew and family Jesse, Katie, niece Erin and T.J. and many aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Miller. Sue died on October 8, 2015, surrounded by family and grand puppy Holly Bear.

Sue's life was filled with love and service. She married William "Bill" Robinette on June 15, 1968, and her daughter Lisa was born July 29, 1969.

Sue graduated from St. Albans High School in St. Albans, WV, where she was involved in science club activities, the annual year book, was Queen of the Miss town Fair and was the Dreama Dragon, the high school mascot.

While in college, Sue was selected for Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, was active in Delta Kappa Gamma, served on the May Day Court, and was Homecoming Queen.

After graduation from college, while living in Huntington, WV, Sue worked as a critical care nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and as coordinator over all four critical care units. She also taught nursing at St. Mary's School of Nursing.

During her tenure at Barton College she and fellow faculty Dr. Alan Sharpe and Dr. Phil Wetherington developed a course on Human Sexuality. Sue and fellow colleague Connie Swartzwelder presented both an in-state and out-of-state program on sexuality at the Freshman Year Experience Conference and were selected for a presentation to the international conference in Scotland. Sue was selected for Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

After her years at Barton, Sue served as Chairman of Nursing and Allied Health at Wilson Technical College. She added a new dialysis program and oversaw the accreditation of the surgical technical program.

Upon retirement, Sue became an active church and community volunteer. At St. Timothy's Episcopal Church she participated in St. Francis Guild, wedding/funeral committee, Epistle staff, Women's Bible Study, and desk assistant. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and The Community Soup Kitchen where she was a team leader, and finally became the director.

She loved teaching. Her students love for her was shown by their involvement in the awards she received at Barton College. She has remarked on her enjoyment of the many years she was involved in The Community Soup Kitchen and her pride in the volunteers and board members, including their commitment and dedication of achieving the goal of a new and larger facility for feeding the hungry.

She loved helping at The Community Soup Kitchen and was so proud of the volunteers, leaders, and Board members for being at the opening of the new building this summer. The leadership is so great, and it has brought together groups like Windy/BB&T, community agencies, Wilson Times and Greenfield School, etc.

She felt blessed by her social connections over the years including Delta Kappa Gamma.

Sue is very grateful for the care and support of Drs. Smith and Metts, Wilson Hospice and Shelia, Tracy, Julie and Helen, Johnston Ambulance Services, Barbara Hall with Brentwood Health Care Agency, and her family and friends who supported her life choices during her journey home with her Lord and Savior.
