Sue Brooks Ferrell, 89, of Wilson, died peacefully on February 8, 2023, at her home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Christian Church, 207 Tarboro St., Wilson, on Saturday, February 11th, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
She was born on May 5, 1933, in Wilson to Ruby and Earl Brooks and has resided in Wilson most of her life.
She graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson in 1950 and continued her education at Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College).

During her career she held positions in the admissions office of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) and with Wilson County Schools. Sue was a lifetime member of First Christian Church.
Sue’s life was focused on being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and she cherished her role supporting her family. Beach outings and holidays with family were very special times for her.
Sue is survived by Gilbert D. Ferrell, her husband of 68 years; children, Leigh Robins Kirkman (Don Kirkman) of Carteret County, Gilbert D. “Bert” Ferrell, Jr. (Pam Taylor) of Wilson, and Patricia Lynn “Trish” Ferrell (Jon Meade) of Wilson; grandchildren, Katherine Robins Wall (Braxton) of Raleigh and Miller Douglas Robins (Cait) of Cary; four great grandchildren, Holden and Brooks Wall and Henry and Shea Robins; sister-in-law, Patsy Ferrell of Wilson and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The annual Brooks family Thanksgiving reunion was a wonderful opportunity for the extended Brooks family to gather each year. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Linda VanEyken, who was Sue’s caregiver and friend during the last year of her life.
