WILSON - Stuart William Thomas, Sr., 91, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Bennett Rolfe Thomas; sisters, Lizzie Morris, Lottie Walker and Louise Cliborne; brothers, Williard, Hobson and Leonard Thomas. In his retirement years, he enjoyed basket weaving and bird watching. He lived in Boydton, VA for 40 years before moving to Wilson. He was a retired superintendent for the Virginia Department of Transportation. A veteran of World War II, he was past commander of VFW Post 8228, Chase City and member of American Legion Post 43, Chase City. He was a former member of Boydton Ruritan Club and the United Methodist Church. Funeral, Thursday, 11 AM, Winstead United Methodist Church. Interment, Thursday, 3:30 PM, Boydton Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Boydton, VA. He is survived by his son, S.W. "Sonny" Thomas, Jr. of Wilson; grandson, Adam Thomas and wife, Beth, of Wilson and brother, Robin W. Thomas, Jr. of South Hill, VA. The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Wednesday, 5:30-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Methodist Home for Children, 1041 Washington St, Raleigh NC 27605 or to the Audubon Society, 123 Kingston Dr, Ste 206A, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
