Steve Brown

Haywood Stephen Brown, 68, died peacefully in the early morning hours of February 24, 2025.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for and at the convenience of his family.

Though his life was lived in Wilson, NC - his dreams and his heart belonged to Hollywood. A lover of cinema, this passion began as a child, watching his father in the projection booth. Following in his father’s footsteps, and helping to ignite the love of cinema in the rest of our family, he went on to manage and help open several movie theaters in the area for Stewart & Everett Theatres, Inc. Always one to be on top of changes in technology, Steve was one of the driving forces in Wilson in the era of video rentals with the opening of his first video rental store, Four Star Video, in 1985. In recent years, he has run the popular Wilson NC Movie Memories group on Facebook, bringing fond memories to many.

A devoted father and lover of family, Steve leaves behind the biggest “Daddy’s Girl” Jenna Bauer, husband, Jon; granddaughter, Tala Brown; beloved mother, Marie Brown; brothers, Bob Brown and Brandon Brown; nephew, Alden Brown and cousin, Jo Ann Strickland.

He was preceded in death by his father Haywood Edgar Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to USO of NC at https://northcarolina.uso.org/support/donate
