Samuel Hodges Moss, Jr. died peacefully at home in Goldsboro on Thursday, July 18, 2019.
Funeral, Monday, July 22, 11:00 AM at Wilson Memorial Service, followed by a time of visiting and sharing.
Sam was born on August 27, 1932, to Nannie Raper Moss and Samuel Hodges Moss, Sr., and raised on Kincaid Avenue in Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nancy Moss Vick, and daughter, Margaret Randall Barnes.
During his high school years, Sam was the drum major of the Charles L. Coon High School Band “mainly because I was tall and the uniform fit.” He served in the US Army and then proudly graduated from NC State University in Raleigh. His career carried him to Goldsboro where he became Vice-President of Manufacturing at Kemp Furniture Company.
Sam was a kind and honorable man with a generous nature. He loved and cared deeply for his family and friends. He is survived by his sister, Jean Moss Fleming, grandchildren, Stephen Barnes, Erin Barnes and Whitney Barnes Black, son-in-law, Brian Barnes, nieces, Nancy Vick Thompson and Sarah Vick Purvis, and nephew, Pat Fleming, and friends who have visited from near and far in his last years. Sam will be missed.
