WILSON - Sadie Coleman Corbett, 80, of Rock Ridge, died Friday, May 20, 2011.
Funeral, Sunday, 3 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, followed by a time of visiting and sharing.
Sadie was born on June, 19, 1930, on what is now known as Sadie Road.
She was the third daughter of the seven children of Robert and Lula Coleman. She lived in the community of her birth except for a time shortly after her marriage to John Allen Corbett. After completion of nursing school, she worked for Dr. Charles Fitzgerald in Farmville, NC. This began her tenure as a nurse to all those around her. Her nursing career covered years as a Public School Health Nurse in Johnston County, but she is best remembered to those in the Rock Ridge area as Dr. Robert Richard's first nurse. She began working with Dr. Richards as he started practice in Rock Ridge in the late 50's. Sadie later continued her career as Director of Nursing at what was then known as the Eastern NC Sanatorium. Her final career move was to the Division of Services for the Blind, until her retirement. Sadie fully retired in 1994 after 43 years of nursing. She then volunteered at the Country Doctor Museum in Bailey, remaining active in Federation of the Blind and Lions Club activities and Marsh Swamp Free Will Baptist Church as long as her health allowed. For her outstanding work with the state of North Carolina, she received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 1992.
