Wilson - Ruth Walston Harris, 59, died Saturday, February 14, 2009. The funeral will be Tuesday, 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery. Ruth was born in Wilson County on August 7, 1949 to Doris Schaum Walston and the late Dred Stuart Walston. She graduated from Converse College in 1971 with a degree in deaf education. She was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church where she served on the Chancel Committee for many years. She served as a board member and officer of the Barton/Wilson Symphony, was active with the Arts Council of Wilson and other community organizations. She was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Clyde Peebles Harris, Jr.: her daughter, Fleming Harris Samuels and husband, Kirk, of Chapel Hill: her sons, Clyde Peebles Harris, III and wife, Ashley, of Raleigh and Clark Walston Harris of Asheville: her three granddaughters, Millicent Schaum Samuels, Elizabeth Vermillion Harris and Annie Fleming Harris: her mother, Doris Schaum Walston of Wilson: her brothers, Dred Stuart Walston, Jr. and wife, Starlette, of Wilson and Richard Cozart Walston and wife, Susan, of Raleigh and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, 7:00 - 9:00 PM, at the home, 400 Wilshire Circle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, PO Box 1423, Wilson NC 27894.
