FREMONT - Ruth Underwood Campbell, 98, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
Funeral, Saturday, 11 AM, Black Creek United Methodist Church. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery, Fremont. The family will be at home, Friday, 4-6 PM.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Campbell in 1974; son, John Michael Campbell; great-grandson, Jacob Allen Floars and parents, Ivey and Bess Carter Underwood.
She was born in Albemarle, December 28, 1916 and graduated from Flora MacDonald College in 1937. She taught for twenty-eight years in Alliance, New Hope, New London, Meadowlane and Fremont. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for more than forty years, many of these years serving as secretary. Mrs. Campbell served as organist for many years at Black Creek United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by her sons, Robert Allen "Bob" Campbell of Charleston, SC and Roy A. Campbell, Jr. (Annette) of Wilmington; daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" (Jim) Eatmon of Sims; grandchildren, Roger Batts (Susan), Catherine Floars, Lebby Campbell and Nathan Campbell; great-grandchildren, Jessica Overton, Tommy and Christopher Batts and great-great-grandson, Jacob Bradon Overton.
