He was involved in trucking all his life. He worked for Thurston Motor Line for over 30 years and then opened Hawley Transport. He was also a farmer at heart. He loved his family and friends. His greatest accomplishment was watching his garden grow and sharing his vegetables with the family. His smile and the twinkle in his eye were his trademark. He was known for his visits with the sick, and he had a kind word for everyone he met. His greatest pleasure was his grandson, Dave, and great-granddaughter, Bailey.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Lentz and husband, David; grandson, Dave Lentz and wife, Lisa, and great-granddaughter, Bailey Lentz, all of Kenly; sister, Barbara Edwards of Wilson.
Mr. Hawley was preceded in death by his wife, Mozelle Bailey Hawley, in December 2019; sisters, Dorothy Hawley, Mina Woodard and Lucille Davis; and his parents, Willie and Maude Hawley.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to the Maggie Society, 606 Trinity Dr., Wilson, NC 27893, or For the Love of Dogs, 5146 Quaker Rd, Wilson, NC 27893.
