Ruby Barnes Newsome, 82, peacefully entered Heaven Thursday evening, July 18, 2019, surrounded by her family.
A funeral service will be held at Fremont Free Will Baptist Church on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 3:30 pm. Immediately following the service there will be a brief visitation in the fellowship hall and graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery.
Ruby was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Carlton Ray Crocker and survived by her daughter Linda Winstead (Cornell) of Kernersville; son, Jerry Crocker (Sara) of Kenly; step-daughters Debbie Sullivan (Rev. Ricky) of Goldsboro, Dana Toler (and the late Jimmy Toler) of Goldsboro; grandchildren Melissa Hunt (Dave), Jessica Blake (AJ), Glenn Crocker (Jessica), Lee Crocker, Will Crocker (Sasha), Alyson Vester (Daniel), Natalie Westbrook (Matthew); step-grandchildren Brock Ham, Jeremy Ham, Jennifer Langston, Patty Smith (Jeff), Jo-Ann (Mike), Christy Carter (Ron), Ashley Strickland and Derrick Strickland. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, and twenty-five step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great grandchildren. She was supported in love by Georgia Barnes, Sandra Barnes, Sue Barnes, and Danny and Darlene Newsome.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Floyd Lorenzo Newsome, her beloved parents, Simon Glenn Barnes and Pauline Lee Barnes, her adoring brothers Billy Barnes, Frank Barnes and Mack Barnes; step-daughter, Deann Strickland and husband , Danny.
Ruby was a devout Christian; she loved the Lord with all her heart and practiced a strong faith in the Lord. Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family, whom she loved unconditionally. One of her favorite pass times was working in her garden, taking care of her yard, and enjoying the beautiful flowers her hard work produced. She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and faith. Family is where her life began, and where her love will never end.
