Ruby Tedder Bissette, 95, passed from this life on Sunday, October 9th, 2022.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 12th, 2022 at 11:00am at Evergreen Memorial with Reverend Brian Tippett officiating.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Bunn of Wilson, NC, Betsy Bissette of Cary, NC and son Terry Bissette of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Cody Bissette of Monroe, NC & Chad Bunn (Leslie) of Wilson, NC; great granddaughter Heather Blythe (Jordan) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; sister Ann Langley of Kinston, NC.
Ruby loved her family and cherished family events. She enjoyed sharing stories about her life on the farm where she performed all the farm chores as a young girl throughout high school where she graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1945.
She was a devoted wife to Alvin while he served 30 ½ years in the US Army. She filled the role of both parents while Alvin was away serving his country in active reserves during the Korean war, fighting in Vietnam for two terms and serving on various bases throughout his 30 ½ years of service to our country.
She was an exceptional cook, kept a spotless home and an immaculate garden.
She loved flowers and sharing her gardening knowledge with others. She won “Yard of the Month” awards for her beautiful gardens at Fort Lee, VA and Miami, FL. Several family members acquired that passion for gardening to include her great granddaughter, Heather Blythe.
Heather Blythe says: One thing I've learned throughout my years is that few people get the privilege of knowing their Great Grandparents. Not only did I get to know my "Grandma Bissette'', I had the honor of her playing a role in helping raise me. As a child I spent many summers with her when school was out and others were at daycare, I was with Grandma Ruby, being pampered with lots of coffee ice cream (my favorite), that she lovingly portioned by hand into my own personal cup, labeled "HB" in black marker. I will never forget the love she poured into everyone around her, and every plant around her. I am so very thankful for the little things I now see in my life that bring me full circle back to someone as precious to me as her very name: Ruby. I will always miss having her here with us but I find peace in knowing she is in heaven now with Jesus and I'll be seeing her again.
Ruby was genuinely loving, thoughtful and very thankful for every kind deed done to her.
She loved helping people throughout her life. Her daily prayer was to help others and for everyone to have peace.
Ruby experienced many changes throughout her 95 years here on earth. She lived during the great Depression 1929-1941.
She married Alvin in 1946 after he returned from fighting during WWII in Germany.
Calvin Coolidge was president of the US when she was born and she’s had 17 US President’s during her lifetime.
In 1927, Henry Ford introduced the Model A Ford.
Other examples include the first color TV’s were introduced in 1957, first American in space in 1961, Motorola introduced the first commercially available hand held cell phone in 1983, & the first computers were introduced in 1973.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Alvin R. Bissette, brothers Ronnie Tedder & Roy Tedder & parents Plummie & Clifton Tedder.
The family would like to thank our special caregivers who provided exceptional care for her throughout the years:
Joyce Finch; 2012 - 2021. She said “mom was the kindest & most unique lady who had a special way with people capturing their attention with her words and smiles.”
Tahita Jones: She said “Words can’t explain how much gratitude, sensitivity and humbleness you taught me and thank you for being my friend. I will forever love you.”
Linda Dixon: Linda says “she loved Mom and she fought a good fight and now she’s resting with Jesus.”
Pat Barnes: Pat says that “Ruby was a joy to be with and that smile melted her heart every time.”
Donations are welcome in her honor to Peace Church , 2838 Tilghman Rd, Wilson, NC 27896 and can be designated to the Missions Fund or Deacon’s Fund to further the work of Christ.
Ruby and Alvin were actively serving members of Peace Church from 1984 throughout their lives.
