Richard Barnes

RALEGH – Richard Franklin Barnes, Jr., 71, died November 30, 2021.

Funeral, Friday, 2:00 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, Wilson, conducted by Rev. Dr. Robert A. Wortham. The family will be at the funeral home an hour in advance of the service.

Surviving is his wife, Anna Lassiter Barnes; sons, Bryan Barnes and Stephen Barnes, both of the home; brother, Thomas Barnes (Ruby) of Wilson.

He graduated from Fike High School, Wilson, and UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in history and political science. His work history included Great American Insurance Company, Ohio Casualty Group and then the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners. In his free time, he loved researching history for a book he was writing and researching his family’s genealogy. When there was spare time, he enjoyed reading, baseball history, and movies. His favorites were the older ones.

He was a son of the late Richard and Brockett Wilkins Barnes of Wilson County.

The family suggests memorials to the NC Baseball Museum, 300 Stadium St., Wilson, NC 27893.
