Redmond Thurman Thorne, 90, of Elm City, died Friday, May 10, 2024.
A graveside service with Military Rites will be on Tuesday, May 21, at 1:00 PM at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Redmond was born in Elm City, North Carolina in 1933. He joined the US Air Force in 1951 and served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After serving twenty-six years on three continents, he returned home. His love for the place of his birth and the people who live there led him to spend the remaining 47 years of his life in Elm City.
In addition to his military service, Redmond was also active in his community through his work as Commander of the American Legion Cox-Putney Post in Elm City. As a Mason and Shriner, he was particularly proud of the work they do for children. He was a supporter of these organizations, as well as those that assist veterans. These were causes about which he was passionate throughout his adult life.
