Phil T. Capps, 72, of Wilson, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
Funeral, Friday, 2:30 PM, Little Rock OFWB Church, Lucama, followed by Masonic Rites. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:00 PM in Heritage Hall at the church.
Phil retired from the City of Wilson Utilities Department after 28 years of service and was Past President of the North Carolina Association of Municipal Electric System safety and training committee. He was Past President of the Wilson County Shrine Club and six-time Wilson County Shriner of the year, as well as Past Director of the Royal Order of Jester’s Court 145 (2016). Phil was Past Fire Chief of Crossroads/Lucama Fire Department and Past President of the Wilson County Fire Association. He was an active member of Little Rock OFWB Church, serving as a trustee, usher, and on numerous other committees.
He played basketball under Coach Hugh Flowers, where he was the unanimous choice for All-County (Wilson) 1968-1969. If he can make the “All Heaven Team”, he will play under Coach Flowers again and wear his high school jersey #44.
Phil is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Allen Capps; daughter, Beverly Ann Capps of Elm City; grandson, Justin Finch of Dallas, TX; brother, Bill Capps of Wilson; two very special nieces, Lorie (Mike) and Cynthia (Gary); numerous family, friends, and two special neighbors, Wayne and Barbara Avery.
