WILSON - Marion Eugene "Pete" Williams, 78, died Monday, September 15, 2014.
A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, 2 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, followed by visitation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Ruby Herring Petway Williams; and a daughter, Ruth Ellen Williams.
Pete lived life to the fullest. He was an avid cyclist, having ridden 12 CNC mountain to coast rides from age 65 to 75. He served on the Wilson County Bicycling and Pedestrian Committee. He was an author of historical fiction books based on the history of his family. His first book was Between The Waters of the Tar and Toisnot, followed by the sequel, A Cop's Deliemma. His proudest achievements were his daughters. Pete worked as a chemist beginning at age 16 with Southern Testing and continuing until retirement with Porritts and Spencer. He graduated from Atlantic Christian College in 1958 and won the first "Turkey Day Race".
He is survived by his wife, Sandra G. Williams; daughter, Jennifer Williams of Wilson.
Memorials are suggested to Community Home Care and Hospice, 2841 Daisy Ln, Ste E, Wilson, NC 27896-6948 or to a charity of one's choice. A special thanks is extended to Lucy, Ramona, Susan and Kristen with Community for outstanding service as well as the other workers and CNAs. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Keith Lerro and staff.
