Peggy Paul Jennette died in her Wilson, NC home surrounded by her family on September 24th.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Kincheloe Paul and Irma Louise Bonander Paul; her husband, Dr. Albert Tyson Jennette; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sidney Earl Jennette, Jr. and Mary Helen James Jennette and nephew Sidney Earl Jennette III.
Peggy was born in Wilmington, NC on July 16, 1935, and moved to Winston-Salem, NC in the fourth grade where she graduated from Reynolds High School in 1953 as an outstanding student and cheerleader. She graduated from Duke University in 1957 with a BA in Education. While at Duke, she was the Duke Chanticleer Beauty Queen and a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Peggy and her college sweetheart Tyson Jennette married on June 22, 1957, and celebrated 65 years together. The couple settled in Wilson, NC in 1964 where they established a beautiful life together for them and their family. Peggy devoted her life to her family, church, and community. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and board member of the Wilson Arts Council and NC Museum of Art. She was a member of the Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Literary Review Book Club. She served on the Wilson Country Club board and was an assistant coach for Fike and then the Hunt High School tennis teams. She was an active member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church serving on the Altar and St. Francis Guilds and was instrumental in the church annual bake sale for many years.
She lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed travelling the world and entertaining family and friends. She had a passion and gift for interior design and was an avid skier and tennis player. She was uniquely beautiful inside and out and has a world of lifelong beloved friends near and far who will miss her terribly.
Peggy is survived by her two daughters, Anne Jennette Grainger (Stuart) of Wilmington, Alyson Jennette Dallas (Bill) of Griffin, GA; granddaughters Anne Tyson Grainger Lee (David) and Catherine Taylor Grainger of Wilmington; Caroline Elizabeth Dallas and Beatrice Jennette Dallas of Atlanta, and Alyson McKenzie Dallas of Washington, DC; great grandchildren Walker Frances Lee and Grainger Burton Lee; sister Kitty Paul Gwathmey (Ned) of Vail, CO and sister-in-law Jackkie Jennette of Griffin, GA; nieces and nephews Winnie and Ted Gwathmey of Denver, CO, Lynn Jennette Stavely of Wilmington, Don Jennette (Terri) of Atlanta, and Jane Jennette of Elkton, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 6, 2023, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 202 Goldsboro St E, Wilson, followed by a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 1527, Wilson, NC 27894.
