We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Wilson Memorial Service
Nancy Rogers Griffin, 83, of Wilson passed away Monday, August 2 after a brief illness.
A short service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, August 5 at 7 p.m. at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Dr. N, Wilson. Pastor Duke Lackey of North Raleigh United Methodist Church will officiate. A visitation, also at Wilson Memorial Service, will immediately follow the service.
Nancy was born on August 25, 1937 in Wilson County to Thomas Rogers and Louise Barnes Rogers. She graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in 1955 and then from East Carolina College (now East Carolina University) with a degree in education, afterwards earning a certificate in library science. She began her education career in Charlotte in 1959, teaching fifth graders at Cotswold School and then worked in the Wilson County School System until her retirement in 1993 from James B. Hunt High School. She loved her students and maintained lifelong friendships with many of them.
Nancy knew just about everyone in Wilson and if she didn’t know you she would strike up a conversation. She had an active social life and enjoyed her various bridge clubs and her Friday night poker at the Wilson Moose Lodge.
She was a vibrant, intelligent and beautiful person, inside and out. She was fiercely independent, loved to try new things and was always on the road. She loved to travel and shop (especially for shoes) and was always very stylish and put together with her outfits and accessories.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Griffin Bunn of Wilson, a sister, Lucy Watson of Kenly; sister-in-law Patricia Rogers of Rocky Mount; several nieces and nephews; and her loyal granddog, Peanut.
Nancy made sure that she taught her daughter life’s important lessons: independence, compassion, kindness, and the love of our Savior.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Rogers, Jr., sister Adelia Cooper, brother Allen Rogers; and son-in-law Gary Bunn.
