WILSON - Mary Lou Bridgers Mattox, 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, First United Methodist Church, 100 Green St, Wilson. A reception will immediately follow in Asbury Hall. The Reverend Robert Bergland will officiate.

A native of Wilson, she was born on May 25, 1932 to Thomas Fleming Bridgers and Louise Anderson Bridgers.

She graduated from Charles L. Coon in 1950 and from Duke University in 1954. On June 16, 1954, she married Dr. Huitt Everett Mattox. In 1960 they moved back to Wilson where she raised her family and lived the rest of her life. Mary Lou was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her entire family.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Huitt Everett Mattox, Jr. and her children Marianne Mattox Davis and husband, George Thomas Davis, Jr., Dr. Huitt Everett Mattox, III and wife, Joyce Witherington Mattox, Dr. Thomas Fleming Mattox and wife, Garland Brown Mattox and Walter Anderson Mattox; her grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Davis Walker and husband, Andrew, Anne Huitt Davis O'Hara and husband, Kevin, Huitt Everett Mattox IV, Dexter Witherington Mattox, Madeline Josephine Mattox, Thomas Fleming Mattox, Jr. and Norman Brown Mattox. In addition she is survived by her sister, Anne Bridgers Hackney and brother, Thomas Fleming Bridgers, Jr. and wife, Lynda Forrest.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, John Needham Hackney, Jr.
