BAILEY - Mary Sue Perry Brown Brantley, 90, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013.
Funeral, Friday, 2 PM, Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, followed by visitation. Interment, Bailey Cemetery.
She was born in Franklin County July 28, 1922. She graduated from Bunn High School in 1939. She lived in Zebulon with her mother and oldest son by a previous marriage until she met and married Adolph Brantley in 1956, a tobacco farmer from Bailey. She moved with him to Nash County and had four more children and worked on the farm. "Miss Sue" was very active in her church, Mount Pleasant United Methodist, participating in many activities such as UMW, Bible school, Sunday school, choir, various church committees, the "quilting ladies", and cooked countless meals for bazaars, fund raisers, showers, and celebrations. She was a "gospel music groupie" for many years, attending gospel singings almost every weekend with friends until her health would no longer permit.
She is preceded in death by her husband Adolph Brantley, son, Neal Brantley; grandsons, Robert Brown and Clint Brantley; brothers, Lebron and Suggs Perry and sister, Stella "Dixie".
Surviving are her daughter Jayne Brantley Barnes of Farmville; sons, Ronnie Brown, Nelson Brantley (Amy) and Richard Brantley of Bailey; grandchildren, Roni-Lee Taylor (David) of Cross, SC, Chad Brown (Lisa) of Merritt Island, FL, Christy Griffis of PA, Jeremy Barnes (Maggie) of Castalia, Graham Barnes (Nikki) of Charlotte, Alexis, Makayla, and Victoria Brantley of Bailey, Mackenzie and Will Brantley of Wilson, great-grandchildren Dustin and Brittney Griffis, Titus Barnes and Connor and Lindsey Brown; sisters-in-law, Jean Stone of Bailey and Janice Watson of Wilson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful caregivers, Heather Evans, Linda Sheen and Doris Cox.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mount Pleasant UMC, 8395 S NC 581, Bailey, NC 27807.
