WILSON - Marvin Hubert Thompson, 89, died Sunday, January 15, 2012.
Funeral, Wednesday, 11 AM, Forest Hills Baptist Church, followed by a time of visiting and sharing.
Marvin retired from the US Post Office having been very active in his community and church. He joined the Marines at age 19 and was involved in action in the South Pacific for 15 months. He was awarded several combat decorations for his service.
Baseball was his sport. He played at Atlantic Christian College and with the Wilson Tobs in the old Coastal Plain League. He added golf to his interest when he could no longer play baseball.
Surviving is his wife, Edith Owens Thompson; daughters, Susan Allen of Wilmington and Barbara Smith (Randall) of Cary; sons, Greg Thompson and Hugh Thompson (Kristine) both of Wilmington; grandchildren, Morgan and Caroline Smith, Leigh and Katie Allen, Dane, Bailey, Cameron and Clay Thompson; sisters, Edythe T. Copeland of Wilson and Frances H. Owens of Four Oaks; brother, A.D. Hicks (Nell) of Wilson.
