WILSON - Martha Cheatham Hunter, 97, died Thursday, July 19, 2012.
Funeral, Tuesday, 11 AM, St Timothy's Episcopal Church. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her husband of over 35 years, Dr. William C. Hunter as well as their daughters, Mary Jane Hunter and Betsy Hunter Forbes, and a son, Theodore C. "Ted" Hunter. She was a daughter of the late James Theodore and Mary Johns Cheatham of Wilson County. A sister, Mary Eccles Cheatham Harris and brother, James Theodore Cheatham, Jr., preceded her.
She attended Wilson Schools and Woman's College in Greensboro. Her compassionate nature and civic responsibility was exemplified by her work with the Wilson County Medical Auxiliary, the Wilson Association of Retarded Citizens, Epilepsy Foundation and others.
She leaves to mourn her passing a son, William C. Hunter, Jr., of Wilson; her first cousin, Richard H. Johns of Washington, DC; nieces and nephews including Mary Harris Everett and Louise Cheatham Holmes of Greenville, Mary Hunter Judge of Harrisonburg, VA, Nancy Hunter of Boston, MA, Clyde P. Harris, Jr. of Wilson, James T. Cheatham, Jr. of Chapel Hill, Jim Hunter of Dallas, TX, Bill Hunter of Virginia Beach, VA, Tom Hunter of Raleigh, Frank Montgomery and Jamene Hunter Partin of Wilmington and Jay Hunter of Rocky Mount.
The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Monday, 6 - 7:30 PM.
