Mark L. Speight, Sr., 87, of Wilson, passed December 8, 2024 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
A funeral service at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church will be on Tuesday, December 17, 6:00 pm, with visitation and reception to follow. Rev. Shawn Garnett will officiate.
Born on June 15, 1937 to Joseph C. and Mildred Dameron Speight on a farm in Wilson County, he was the youngest of ten children and the last of his family. Mark graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in 1957 and attended Atlantic Christian College. He served in the NC National Guard and was employed by the City of Wilson, McDonald’s, and Vester Honda. He was a longtime member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church of Wilson, where he served faithfully.
Mark was preceded in death by brothers Isaac, Earl, Herman, Spurgeon, Joseph Jr., and Larry, and by sisters, Bernice Baker, Flossie Lucas, and Frances Phillips.
He is survived by his sons Mark “Lewis” Speight, Jr. of Maury and Gearld Speight (Tracie) of Cooleemee; grandsons, Jared and Jesse Speight; sisters-in-law, Ann Speight of Wilson and Frances Speight of Aberdeen and life-long friend Patricia Barnes of Wilson as well as many nieces and nephews.
