WILSON - Marigold Arnold Chesson, 86, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015.
Funeral, Friday, 11 AM, Westview Christian Church, followed by visitation. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
Marigold was born November 3, 1928 in Grimesland to Raymond and Anniebelle Hodges Arnold.
Marigold was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Chesson and daughter, Susan Winstead both in 2013 and parents, Charles Raymond and Anniebelle Hodges Arnold.
She is survived by her son, Charles "Chuck" Chesson (Teresa) of Stantonsburg; grandchildren, Brandy Chesson, Jessica Anstead, Damien Chesson, Jennifer Clark (Jack), Wendi Massey (Kris) and Christie Tomlinson (Ray); fourteen great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Chris Winstead.
After graduating as salutorian of her class at Grimesland High School, she attended Louisburg College and Kings Business College. She worked for the Pitt County Board of Education where she met her husband, Lloyd Chesson who was attending East Carolina University. They married in 1950 and shared 63 years of marriage. After living in Washington for four years, they moved to Wilson to make their permanent home. Upon moving to Wilson, she worked as a teller with National Bank of Wilson and First Union National Bank. She was later associated with the Chesson Agency and Smith and Smith Real Estate.
In early years her service in the community included being treasurer of Junior Women's club, Gray Ladies and past President of Church Women United.
She was a Charter member of Westview Christian Church having served as board chair several times in the life of the church and other elected offices and committees of Westview. She was an adult Sunday school teacher for 45 years and past president of Christian Women's Fellowship of Westview. At present she was serving as an elder, trustee, vice chair of board and serving on stewardship and properties committees on a state level. She served in the past on state board of Women's Organization of the Christian Church in NC and several State Committees. She was at present a member of Wilson Woman's club.
