Mae Pittman

Mae Batten Pittman, 96, of Wilson, died Friday, July 20, 2012.

Funeral, Monday, 3:00 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive, Wilson. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Pittman, daughter of the late Walter Green and Carrie Lee Lamm Batten of Wilson County, was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Alford Pittman; sisters, Bessie Edgerton and Celia Littleton; brothers, Benjamin, Silas and James Robert Batten.

She attended Scott's School and went on to graduate from Lucama High School in 1933 as valedictorian of her class. Many will remember her from the Nursery of Wilson Medical Center having retired in 1982.

She was the senior surviving member of Lamm's Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church near Lucama having served the church in many capacities through the years. Memorials are suggested to the Church Building Fund and may be mailed to PO Box 220, Lucama, NC 27851.

Surviving are her sons, Stearle Pittman and wife, May of Greenville, James "Jim" Donahue Pittman and wife, Theresa, and Harold Pittman and wife, Linda, all of Wilson; grandchildren Gene Pittman (Susie) of Greenville, Art Pittman (Diana) of Sterling, VA, Kimberly Canipe (Bill) of Clayton, Donna McGalliard (Nick) of Winston-Salem; Matthew Pittman of Wilson; great-grandchildren, Lynn Conner, Brittany Pittman, Madison Canipe and Baylie McGalliard; great-great grandchildren, Kenlie and Cohlt Conner; sister, Melda Lamm (Bill) of Goldsboro and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special appreciation to her long time church family and to the caring staff of Wilmed Nursing Care Center.
