Rocky Mount - McNeely Daniel Shingleton, died Friday, January 11, 2013.
Mac was born on July 23, 1968, in Wilson, son of Edward Daniel Shingleton and Helen Daniel Shingleton.
Mac attended Fike High School in Wilson graduating in 1986. Following a year at Wilson Community College, he attended Barton College, from which he graduated in 1991.
He joined the public health community as an Environmental Health Specialist at the Wilson County Health Department. He then served in the same position in both Nash and Granville-Vance Health Departments for seventeen years. His friendly, outgoing manner and kindness to others will long be remembered by the many people touched by his life, especially in the public health community of North Carolina. His colleagues and those he served were held in high esteem by Mac. He greatly appreciated the support and kindness he received from the Health Departments and the public in the communities he served.
Mac is survived by his wife, Gaye Whitley Shingleton; children, Jessie Shingleton of Boone, Julia Shingleton, Will Shingleton and James Shingleton of the home; parents, Dan and Helen Daniel Shingleton of Elm City; sister, Marney Black (Don) of Charleston, SC and brother, Jon Shingleton (Amber) of Elm City.
Funeral, Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 5326 London Church Rd, Elm City, Wednesday, January 16, 11:00 AM, conducted by Rev. Julius Whitley. Visitation will follow the service.
