Luther Lamm

d. June 6, 2010

LUCAMA - Luther Lamm, 83, died Sunday, June 6, 2010. Funeral, Saturday, 10 AM, Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive, followed by a time of visiting and sharing. Mr. Lamm was born on November 1, 1926, in Wilson county, as the ninth child of George Thomas and Neppie Moore Lamm. He graduated Lucama High School in 1945 where he drove a school bus with pay amounting to about fifteen dollars per month. He immediately entered the Navy and was assigned to the USS Stickel in port at Orange, TX. Ports entered during his naval career were Corpus Christi, TX; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Kingston, Jamaica; Galveston, TX; and Charleston, SC. Mr. Lamm ventured to Washington, DC, in 1949, and joined Capital Transit as a bus operator. It was on a route outside Rockville, Maryland, that he met Martha Ellen Carter. Within a year they married, lived in Washington, and made a home for their children, Jerome "Jerry", Susan Ellen (now deceased) and Lynn Renee. He later returned to Wilson county and became a surveyor and bridge inspector with the NC Department of Transportation. He retired to the Lamm family farm in Crossroads township in 1978. On the farm he has enjoyed gardening, the simple life of country living and developed a great interest in genealogy. His findings revealed he was an eighth generation Lamm (Lamb) in the township with his ancestors receiving land grants in the early seventeen hundreds. Further findings indicated his ancestors arriving from England about a hundred years earlier. Surviving is his daughter, Renee Lamm Esordi (Michael) of CT; son, Jerry Lamm (Catha) of NH; granddaughters, Fenner, Ellen and Charlotte Lamm. Memorials are suggested to the Wilson County Library, 249 Nash St, W, Wilson, NC 27893.
