WILSON - Louise Wiggins Hackney, died July 1, 2014, in her home.
Mrs. Hackney was born January 6, 1917 to John Lawrence and Lilian Aycock Wiggins.
She attended Atlantic Christian College (now Barton).
In 1956 she was president of The Women of First Christian Church and Secretary of The National Council of Church Women. She was Special Gifts Chairwoman of the United Fund and served 14 years on the Wilson-Greene Mental Health Board. She also served 40 years on the Wilson County Mental Health Board. At the 50th anniversary of the Mental Health Association in Raleigh, she was honored for outstanding service in Wilson County. In 1998 she received the Frances Barshay Award for her work with Wilson Mental Health. She chaired Patient Services for Wilson-Greene Mental Health Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Douglas Hackney, III; her daughter, Susan Hackney Black of Elm City; brothers John Lawrence Wiggins, Jr. and William Aycock Wiggins of Wilson; a sister, Ann Wiggins Beloff of Wilson and nephew, Arthur Philip Wiggins of Zebulon.
Surviving is her niece, Louise Wiggins Jordan and husband, Robert Strong Jordan, of Raleigh, son-in-law Joseph Michael Black of Elm City; grandchildren Susan Black Strauch of Wilson, Joseph Michael Black, Jr. and wife Dorathy Bunn Black of Pinehurst, Elizabeth Black Horne and husband James Dee Horne Jr. of Elm City; five great-grandchildren, Holden Hackney Strauch of Wilson, Anna Grace Black and Joseph Michael Black III of Pinehurst, James Dee Horne III and Elizabeth Dickins Horne of Elm City; great grandnephews and niece, Robert Strong Jordan, Jr., Philip Hackney Jordan, Anne Hereford Jordan, and Thomas Bryant Jordan, all of Raleigh,
Funeral, Thursday, July 3, 10:00 AM, Maplewood Cemetery, Section F, conducted by Reverend Dan Hensley. The family will receive friends at the home of Joseph Michael Black, 3617 London Church Road, Elm City, after the service until 6:00 PM.
