WILSON - Lois Anna Whitley Farmer, 86, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009. The family will be in the Common Room of St Timothy's Episcopal Church on Saturday for one hour prior to the Funeral at 4 PM. Interment will be for the immediate family. She was the widow of Joseph Sterett Farmer, Jr, who died in 1987. A daughter of Robert Macon and Anna Sherard Whitley of Stantonsburg, she was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Sterett Farmer III; a sister, Carolyn Barnes, and a brother, Robert Macon Whitley, Jr. A longtime member of the DAR, she had been active in the Wilson Garden Club, Garden & Gab Club and was a certified flower show judge having served over the state and at the State Fair. Surviving is a daughter, Ann Barnes, and husband Dick of Wilson; daughter-in-law, Amy Farmer Cockman of Raleigh; grandchildren, Sherrod Barnes Ginifer and husband John of Bristol, England, Richard Joseph Barnes, III and wife, Tyrelle, of Raleigh; Joseph Sterett Farmer IV and wife, Amy, of Hampstead; great-grandchildren, Leighanna Rivers Duggan, Virginia Whitley Barnes, William Joseph Barnes and Richard Sterett Farmer; sister, Eleanor Shingleton of Stantonsburg; brother, Daniel Whitley, and his wife, Marguerite, of Stantonsburg. A special thank you is extended to her caregivers, Angela Hunt, Patricia Edmundson, Linda Langston and Jeanette Best.
