WILSON - Lloyd Wentz Chesson, 88, died Sunday, February 17, 2013.
Funeral, Wednesday, 2:00 PM, Westview Christian Church, 1502 Raleigh Rd, followed by a time of visiting and sharing with his family. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.
Lloyd was born in Beaufort County to the late P.G. and Edith Williams Chesson; preceding him in death also were brothers and sisters-in-law, Grey Chesson (Irma), Bryan Chesson (Louise), Carrol Chesson (Helen), David Chesson (Polly).
After graduation from Vanceboro High School, he attended N.C. State for two years, then two years in the Army during World War II. After the war, he entered ECTC (East Carolina University) and while there met his future wife, Marigold. They were married 63 years.
They moved to Washington for three years before their permanent move to Wilson in 1953. He was named District Manager of Home Security Life Insurance Company. Later, he became associated with the Chesson Real Estate Agency, Triangle Insurance and Globe Life Insurance, a subsidiary of Swift and Company, and Smith and Smith Real Estate.
He was the first realtor in Wilson to receive the CRS designation. He was the last man standing on a team of six who organized the Wilson Board of Realtors where he also served as chairperson. Service continued on the state level as a director of the North Carolina Board of Realtors. He was past chair of the Life Underwriters of Wilson.
In his earlier years, he was active in the community serving as chair of the Downtown Heart of Wilson Associates, chairman of the Wilson Cemetery Commission and was a member of the Elks Club.
Lloyd was a founding member of Westview Christian Church and was chair of the Building Committee. Through the years, he was an Elder, Chairman of the Board, Properties Chair, Trustee, Choir - all in his 53 years as a local member. On the state level, he had been Assistant Treasurer of the Board of Christian Churches.
Surviving is his wife, Marigold Arnold Chesson; daughter, Susan Winstead (Chris); son, Charles "Chuck" Chesson (Teresa); grandchildren, Jennifer Clark (Jack), Wendi Massey (Kris), Christie Winstead, Jessica Chesson, Brandy Chesson and Damien Chesson; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Anne Chandter; several nieces and nephews.
