WILSON - Linda Leigh Flippin, 76, died suddenly, Monday, April 18, 2011, at her home.
Funeral, Wednesday, 11 AM, First United Methodist Church, conducted by
Rev. D. Ray Warren, Jr. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Linda was born in Coleman, FL, and spent her youth in Kinston where she was president of her high school student body. Throughout her life, she remained close to her Grainger High School friends. After graduating from Duke University where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, and her wedding she lived in New York City for two years.
For over fifty years she has made her home in Wilson. A life long member of the Methodist Church, she was devoted to the Wilson Church were she was involved in many aspects of the music and Sunday School programs. She sang in the Wilson Chorale, was a long time volunteer at Hope Station and served at the Wilson Soup Kitchen. A charter member of the Roundtable, she was a member of the Literary Review and enjoyed two Wednesday bridge clubs. Linda made a major contribution to the youth of her community as a public school teacher for thirty years.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Robert S. Flippin, Jr.; her daughter, Elizabeth Leigh, and her husband, Kenneth C. Krause, Jr., and granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann and Katherine Leigh Krause, with whom she spent many happy days in Morehead City; her brother, Daniel Eugene Leigh of Greenville; her sister-in-law, Joanne Leigh of Minneapolis, MN; two nephews, Bob Leigh and Tom Leigh. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Edward and Lena Wicker Leigh and her brother, Robert Edward Leigh, Jr.
