ELM CITY - Lillian Poythress Baker, 99, died Monday, March 16, 2009. Mrs. Baker was the widow of Johnny Baker. She did five years of private duty nursing before embarking on 30 years of service at Woodlawn and Gatewood nursing homes. She was at the former Frank's Grill in Elm City for 25 years before moving with Frank and Edna to Engelhard to help for another five years. Her church membership was in Aenon Baptist Church for over 60 years. Funeral, Thursday, 2 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive, Wilson, followed by interment in Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount. Surviving are daughters, Katherine Gardner, widow of Martin, of Wilson, Shirley Winstead and her husband, Larry, of Wendell, Edna Summerlin and her husband, Frank, of Engelhard; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Lee Pate of Goldsboro. The family will be at Wilson Memorial, Wednesday, 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Memorials are suggested to American Lung Association, 8300 Health Park, Ste 316, Raleigh NC 27615.
