WILSON - Elizabeth "Lib" Hawkins Bumgarner passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2013, after celebrating her 90th birthday surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral, Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., First Baptist Church, Wilson. The visitation will be at the church, 12:30-2 PM. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.
Lib was predeceased by her beloved husband, L. H. "Shike" Bumgarner, in 1996. Survivors include her her sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Darlene Bumgarner and Mike and Cheryl Bumgarner of Wilson; and Tony and Debbie Bumgarner of Wade; grandchildren Donna and Don Slaven of Maineville, OH; Christine and Chuck Sinnermon of Woodstock, GA; Scott and Allyson Bumgarner of Wilson; Lisa Bumgarner of Raleigh; Chris and Aaron Bumgarner and Kelly and John Revels of Fayetteville; Jeffrey Bumgarner of Clover, Virginia; Brandon and Morgan Cobb of Wilson; Kristen and Ryan Honeycutt of Lewisville; great-grandchildren Angela and Ryan Perry of Dallas, GA; Kayla Slaven of Maineville, OH; Bailey and Claire Bumgarner of Wilson; River Revels of Fayetteville; Benjamin and Emmalyn Cobb of Wilson; Kate and Harper Honeycutt of Lewisville; great-great grandchild, Adalyn Elizabeth Perry of Dallas, GA. Also surviving are sisters Colleen Rhyne of Lincolnton and Carolyn Myers Sloan of Raleigh; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend and devoted caregiver, Alice Browder. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Johnsie Fowler; brothers, Fred Hawkins and Coleman Hawkins; niece Peggy Garner.
Lib was born to Anna and Joe Hawkins in Lincolnton, North Carolina, on February 25, 1923. She delighted in following her Lord and Savior by helping those less fortunate and devoted her time and energy to nurturing and caring for others. She enjoyed over 20 years as a compassionate Hospice of Wilson volunteer and was recognized as Volunteer of the Year in 1993. She also dedicated her time to the After School Program at First Baptist Church, Meals on Wheels, and the Red Cross Blood Drive.
She is fondly remembered by her family and many friends as a wonderful cook and entertainer with a great wit.
