Kay Thompson Ezzelle, 81, of Wilson, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 1, 2024, after a short illness.
A graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery on Saturday, May 18, at 11:00 am.
Kay was born to John Richard and Alma Deans Thompson in October of 1942 and was raised in the Green Pond community of Nash County. Kay attended Bailey High School graduating in 1961 and afterwards completed her nursing education at Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh, graduating in 1964. While at Rex, Kay met V.H. “Doc” Ezzelle, Jr. to whom she was married for 49 years. Following a short nursing career Kay went on to be employed by Wilson County Schools for many years. Kay was a consummate reader of novels and was a lover of beagles.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Sue Tinsley and Joyce Howard Jackson; husband, Doc; grandson, Reid Thompson Ezzelle, and daughter-in-law, Anne Carroll Mustian Ezzelle.
Kay is survived by her son Brian Thompson Ezzelle; granddaughters, Elizabeth Love Ezzelle and Meredith Katherine Ezzelle; grandson, Alexander Carroll Ezzelle, and her beloved beagle, Snoopy.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lucy Corr Village of Chesterfield, VA and Traditions Health Hospice for their incredible care and support during Kay’s illness.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in Kay’s name to either the Friends of Wilson County Public Library, P.O. Box 1022, Wilson, NC 27894-1022 or to Mutt Love Rescue, P.O. Box 1005 Fairfax, VA 22038.
