CHARLOTTE - Katharine Dempsey Rogers, 55, died peacefully Saturday, October 6, 2012.
"Kit", as she was known to her family and friends, was born August 23, 1957 in Wilson, the daughter of James Carlyle Dempsey, junior and Katharine Fleming Dempsey. She graduated from Greenfield School in 1975 and attended St. Mary's Junior College. She was presented by the Terpsichorean Club at the 1976 North Carolina Debutante Ball.
Kit worked as a flight attendant with Piedmont Airlines and US Airways for 23 years. Like her family, Kit was an ardent Carolina basketball fan. She was loved by her friends and family for her sense of humor, quick wit and sweet demeanor.
Kit was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Julian Lane Dempsey, all of Wilson. She is survived by her husband, Edgar Eugene Rogers, junior, of Charlotte; her father-in-law, Edgar Eugene Rogers, of Flat Rock, Alabama; her brothers, James Carlyle Dempsey III, of Raleigh, and Charles Connor Dempsey and wife, Anne Bird Dempsey, of Wilson; her sister-in-law, Mary Helen Dempsey, of Wilson; her niece, Elizabeth Dempsey Merritt and husband, John Douglas Merritt, junior, of Raleigh; her nephews, James Carlyle Dempsey IV of Washington, DC; Charles Connor Dempsey, junior of Wilson; Michael Fleming Dempsey of Wilson; and Hunter Lee Rooker of Raleigh; and her great nephews, John Douglas Merritt III, George Gilliam Merritt and Jaxon Connor Wright.
The family wishes to thank all who supported Kit during her illness including the doctors, nurses and staff at Baxter Street Fresenius Medical Care, Metrolina Nephrology Associates, Advanced Home Care and Presbyterian Hospital Radiology and ICU; the Reverend Doctor Deb Blackwood, Deacon at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, Charlotte; and her dear friends.
A visitation will be held at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive North, Wilson, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Wilson, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 with a reception to follow in the Common Room.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 202 North Goldsboro Street, Wilson, N.C. 27894 or to The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, 2701 Park Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28209.
