Joyce Gay

Joyce Edwards Gay, of Wilson, was born November 27, 1948, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024.  

She was born in Wilson, North Carolina to Mrs. Effie Barfield Edwards and the late Jesse J. Edwards. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert M. Gay, two sisters, Geraldine Edwards, and Josie E. Lackey and a nephew, Matthew T. Walston all of Wilson, NC. 

Joyce is survived by her mother, Effie B. Edwards of Wilson; sister, Debbie E. Whitley (Ricky) of Zebulon; two sons, Timothy M. Gay (JoEllen) and Scott Gay of Wilson; four grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart, Savannah G. Rose (Hunter) of Fountain, Caylan M. Gay, Rylan S. Gay, and Ellison R. Gay, of Wilson.  She was anticipately awaiting the arrival of her great granddaughter, Erin A. Rose.  She also had many nieces and nephews she adored.

Joyce was married to the love of her life, Herbert M. Gay, Jr. for 51 years.  They loved to travel and fish.  Joyce loved the beach and missed going in the later years during her illness.  Joyce was retired from Carter Bank & Trust as a teller. She was a faithful member of Farmington Heights Church and watched the services online for the past few years.

Her service will be held, Thursday, January 11, at 6 pm at Wilson Memorial Service located at 2811 Fieldstream Drive N, officiated by Pastor J. LaVon Phillips and Pastor Daylon Mooneyham.  The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service and at other times at 5002 Hunting Ridge Road in Wilson.
