She was born in Rocky Mount on December 6, 1930, to the late Thomas G. and Mary Lou Boyette Allgood. Joy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was very important to her and having them all together at "Mimi's house" for one of her delicious meals was a highlight in her life.
A member of First Baptist for over 70 years, her service to the Lord and others was a priority. She certainly loved her church and taught Sunday School for over 55 years, worked with the youth, Mission Friends and assisted in the after school program for under privileged children. Active in Cub Scouts, she was the first Den Mother to received the honored Green Band Award.
Joy always loved meeting new people and making friends of most of them. She was a volunteer for a number of years for Meals On Wheels and at Avante Nursing where she was loved by the staff and residents alike. She could always be counted on to visit the shut-ins and those who received one of her wonderful handwritten notes counted themselves blessed.
