Joseph Gilbert LaMonica passed away on February 21st, 2025 at Wilson Medical Center, with his daughter and granddaughter by his side.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, April 5, 11:00 AM, at 308 Forest Hills Rd NW, Wilson. A graveside service will be at Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Ohio at a later date.
Joe was born in Alliance, Ohio on April 5th, 1926 to Frank and Erma Figliola LaMonica. The family later moved to Salem, Ohio where Joe met Estelle Mae Callatone. They were inseparable and she was the love of his life. Joe was a proud WWII veteran. He joined the US Navy aboard the USS Massachusetts in 1943. He really enjoyed going to their 70th reunion in 2016. He married Estelle in 1947. They were married 57 years before her passing. Joe worked in several jobs around the country, but he was the proudest of being president of IMCO Reinforced Plastics of Moorestown, New Jersey. They were like family to him. He retired in 1997 and moved to Wilson, North Carolina with Estelle to be near to his daughter Marcia Stancil.
Joe leaves behind his daughter Marcia, his granddaughter Allison (Oliver) Mann and their children Monica, and Ollie and his grandson Brian (Paula) Stancil and their three children, Morgan (Collin) Kammerer, Mackenzie (Spencer) Freeman and Miles (Alie). He also leaves a son Joseph LaMonica and his wife Joyce of Leverett, Massachusetts and a daughter Patricia LaMonica and her children Ian (Katie) O’Byrne, Scott (Ines) Myers, Matthew (Stephanie) O’Byrne, Molly (Steve) Dougherty, Joseph William O’Byrne and Emily Young. He loved all of his 17 great-grandchildren.
