LUCAMA a�" Joseph Wayne "Bucky" Childress, 70, died Friday at his home.
Joe served four years active duty in the U.S. Navy and was retired from the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired in 1997 from the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Henry; father, Marvin Childress; and daughter, Hattie Louise Childress.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn "Kay" Overman Childress; two sons, Joseph Todd Childress and wife, Gina Bradley Childress of Wilson and Adrian Steve Childress and wife, Vikki Barwick Childress of Jacksonville; two grandsons, John Bradley "Brad" Childress and Jordan Todd Childress, both of Wilson; two granddaughters, Kayla Nicole Childress and Mary Beth Childress, both of Jacksonville; and a sister, Barbara C. Carter and husband, Edward, of Kannapolis.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, 3 p.m., at Wilson Memorial Service. The Rev. David Kriger will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Wilson Memorial Service Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at 7435 N.C. 581, Lucama.
